The London Alternative Market is held on the first Sunday of every month. The next one will be on 6th July 2008. Doors open at 11am, and the event runs 'til 6pm (last entry at 5.30pm).
Cost of admission is £4. That buys you:
Fetish dress-code is not necessary to gain entry to LAM. Jeans and a T-shirt are perfectly acceptable, for example. On the other hand, far be it from us to discourage people turning up dressed up to the hilt in their finest leather, latex or fabric of choice. You should also feel free to express your chosen lifestyle while at the market; Masters, Mistresses, TVs, slaves, ponies, pets and other fetishes are all welcomed as we aim to promote an open and accepting environment. The venue does however insist that complete nudity is not acceptable.
The bar is very reasonably priced and competitive with the local pubs; there will also be concessions stands selling a variety of hot foods. If you wish to leave to eat and return later please ensure that you gain a re-entry stamp from reception.
The venue has fair access for wheel chair users and the LAM crew will assist you in any way possible while you are at the event. If you feel that there is something that we could do to make your visit more enjoyable please let us know as much in advance as possible so that arrangements can be made. If you arrive between 11:15am and 11:45am on the day of the market, MC will be available to ensure that while the venue is at a quieter period you are given as much assistance as is feasible.
As we are in the middle of Clapham, we are surrounded by the various high street banks. There are cash points on the high street itself as well as across the road in the Clapham Junction railway station. Lastly, there is a cash machine inside the venue by the community table (though it's the sort that charges a small fee).
We wrote a page about how to find us - it's here. Basically, our venue is The Grand (on St. John's Hill - SW11 1TT) across from Clapham Junction Station - see the map on our directions page.
Smoking is not permitted. The height of the main room is such that it would take a lot of smoke to get too smokey, too. There is a cigarette machine in the venue.
The cloakroom is now operational, on the second floor (up the stairs to the right as you enter The Grand, and then through the doors to your right - if you get to the gallery you've gone up too far). It's staffed by volunteers, and all of the proceeds go to that month's supported cause.
